Review 10/11/2009
WARNING: ASAP Relocations is doing business as America’s Best Movers. They have changed their name but still have the same shady business practices. ASAP Relocations / America’s Best Movers have a rating of F with the San Jose Better Business Bureau. http://sanjose.bbb.org/Business-Report/ASAP-Relocations-Inc-217745 All paperwork states America’s Best Movers but notes ASAP Relocation’s US DOT 1109075. They do not honor the terms of their contact. Their sales team makes promises they do not keep. Many of my items were broken during the move. They refused to reassemble the furniture they disassembled for the move. I was charged over $500 for boxes and supplies that were not used. YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE AMERICA’S BEST MOVERS OUT OF SAN JOSE FOR YOUR NEXT MOVE.

1. I was never asked about how many stairs were on each flight. Once my items were on the truck, I was then told that in ABM terms a "flight" is 7 steps. So even though I lived on the 3rd floor and was quoted for 3 flights of steps, I was charged for 5 flights of stairs. There were 3 sets of stairs 8 steps each, 24 steps, 24 divided by 7 is 3.4; so I can't understand charging 5 flights.

I was also told I would receive the first flight free, and that has not been discounted. When I spoke with Niko to once again try to figure out how I could be charged for 5 flights he said $75 per flight and the first one is free. Then I said, "I know some companies have a definition about how many stairs like '7 is one flight'." He said no, if it’s 7 or 8 we will charge you for one flight. My move had 3 flights of stairs 8 steps each. Tammy said the same thing to be when developing the quote, "3 flights of stairs, the first one is free, $150 stair charge" I was charged $375.

When my items were delivered once again there were 3 flights of steps but this time there were 10 steps in each flight. They charged me $150; following the policy as described by the sales person. So this leads me again to believe I was over charged $225 for stairs.

2. Tammy told me my mirror and table would be packed and wrapped for me at a rate of $102. The moving guy told me everything had to be wrapped in tape. Tammy also said the wardrobe box and mattress bag would be free. I was charged $700 for tape and these so called "additional boxes" that were needed for the move. The moving guy showed me a list but it was not provided with my receipts. When I asked Linda for a copy she said I could not get one until I paid for delivery. I don't understand how there could be a $700 charge for boxes and tape.
Had I been told the boxes need to be completely wrapped all the way around in tape, I could have done so myself. When the moving guy did an initial walkthough he said very little needs to be packed. I even took his suggestion to not move a large picture I had because the cost was higher to move it than it was worth.
I have asked repeatedly for a receipt of moving supplies but they refuse to provide me with one. I was overcharged $500 for supplies.

3. Tammy told me there would not be a storage charge as I was not storing any of my items. But I'm being charged a $75 storage rate even though I was prepared for immediate delivery.

4. The website states all credit cards were accepted. The moving guy told me when we were going over the initial paperwork you can pay how you like here but you must use cash at delivery. When I tried to pay him with a credit card after my items were put on the truck he said he could not accept it he could only accept cash.

5. Once my items were delivered they charged me an additional $300 to rent a smaller truck to drive up to my apartment. This was not outlined in the quote.

6. I was told the moving rate includes disassembling my furniture on pick up and reassembling upon delivery. The moving guys who delivered my items said they didn’t know how to assemble my furniture and refused. So I feel there should be some kind of reimbursement for not completing the job.

The quote for my move was $1825 but in the end I was charged $2975. I had to pay it or they would not give me my items back. They won my business because they used a name I was unable to accurately research. This company refuses to speak to me to correct my issues. Linda has hung up on me and refuses to provide a receipt for moving supplies. This company has overcharged me at least $900!
