My experience was truly awful. The last 4 months of my lease my roommate's income was cut and notified me that I should look to find a new roommate. I notified the leasing agent and asked what options I had. I wanted to know if I could rent a one bedroom apartment that was empty in the same building, and start a new lease one month from now. Or if the owner would release me from the lease to move into another KMK property. The leasing agent told me that due to the issue of "oil" leaked from my car that she didn't think that the owner would allow for me to be released early. The "oil" had been cleaned up within 48 hours of being notified weeks earlier. How could that be an issue? Then she said that I could not occupy a one bedroom with more than 2 people. How can that be when two parents live with their child? Never heard of such a thing?! One week passed and she had not yet contacted the owner to find out what he would or would not agree to. She did not return my calls in a timely fashion. Then she said the one bedroom had been rented out. Other units in other KMK properties that were listed on the website,that I considered were no longer available she said. They too were already gone? Days later a friend of mine went to see the units listed on the website and each one was available and a leasing agent met them at each unit and gave applications. A total of 4 apartments including the one bedroom that I had asked about in the building I was living in.

It became clear to me that the leasing agent had been giving me the run around for reasons that seemed to be personal.LYING to MY FACE & on the PHONE. She had decided that she would obstruct every option or interest of mine with either false information or plain illegal information. Saying that the City/Owner had rules about one bedroom's with more than 2 occupants not allowed. This is not the law! Housing protection laws state the 2 plus ONE rule.
Attempts to discuss these concerns and frustrations with the Supervisor were met with a rude, curt, dismissive attitude. It was very clear that the supervisor was in support of the leasing agent and wanted no discussion.
The KMK attitude was discriminatory, and systemic. Unprofessional power games, and hostility were the kind of thing you may see in highschool within cliques that bully, and humiliate, and mock the rest. This is a disgusting way to run a business and a waste of everybody's time. Trying to get a solution and weighing options with trustworthy facts and information was like trying to light a candle with some blowing out the match. Hideous behaviour. Totally unacceptable.
