You get what you pay for...
Ok, So we went to a presentation and bought a vacation club package and received a voucher for a "free cruise" There was very fine print on the back of the voucher so I red it carefully. My hubby and I have needed a vacation and although we knew it was not free we did know it would be cheaper. We followed all directions. Registered the certificate, sent $198 deposit, pick 3 dates, and 50 days before the first date (3/1) we were e-mailed and told to call for booking. The rep who answered the phone warned me that the phone call would be 45 minutes. I said to myself yeah right, I was at work and I ready knew she was going to try to up sell me so I was prepared to tell her no. She put me on hold and came back and said she has a cruise date for 3/1 but its with Norwegian so I told her fine we will take that. She seemed shocked. We had already warned our family about a possible vacation opportunity and we had places for the kids to go and vacation time saved at out jobs so we were flexible at the time. She told me it was a standard cabin with bunk beds luckily I had Norwegians site up and I declined the upgrade. Their were on bunk beds on the ship, some cabins had single beds that could be converted into a double. She tried to offer hotel lodging at $150 a night and I told her I would do everything else myself. I booked the trip and paid $323 in addition to the $198 I already spent. That was $520 for a 3 night cruise and round trip airfare. Further catch is that we live in a major city but we have to fly our of a airport that in 1.5 hours away in another state. We will fly out on Thursday "so we wont miss our cruise" and we booked a hotel for the night in fort lauderdale with comp shuttle to the port of Miami. All in all we have spent approx $700 on a free trip. Not free at all but almost buy one get one free. I'm excited and we definitely need this vacation. Beat them at their own game, once on the cruise you are eligible for the same amenities as everyone else and no one knows your are in an inside cabin. BTW I have read several places that the cruise line will upgrade you for free. We cruise in less than a week and so far we have only a guaranteed room assignment so hopefully we will get the upgrade. Just received out income tax refund so we are going to party hardy on this vacation.
