What a nightmare. In summary The unit instead of being 80% efficient was extremely inefficient and could not be modified. They promised to take it back for a full refund but then trumped up a claim of "Shipping Damage" even thought the pictures showed the unit to be undamaged and intact; except for a quarter inch spot near the door pin where the paint flaked off. They made me pay ($310) for and arrange for the return shipping, So they say I have to fight with the shipping company for damages. Even though I used their carrier and packaging and the unit was never unscrewed from their original pallet. I am out 2500 with nothing to show for it. Reviews from other sites seen to indicate their customer service is uniformly horrible.
Ordered a Prodigy Peninsula B-Vent Fireplace fireplace that Woolanddirect advertised as 80% efficient. B-vent usually uses room air for combustion but they advertised a kit that would use outside air. The PDF manual gave no information. When I got the unit I removed a glass door to examine the fittings and gas logs that were shipped inside the unit. Around the sides of this 3 sided fireplace were half inch cracks for the combustion air. About 75 square inches open to the outside with no way to close even when not in use. My room heat would go right the chimney 24/7/365.
They claim the "Shipping Damage" can not be repaired and my $2000 unit has zero value. I believe it is a scam. Black paint on the pallet, matching the outline of the unit, indicates to me that the paint was touched up just before they sent it to me. The so called shipping damage seems to be the result of a manufacturing defect as properly applied paint does not flake off. The unit was a little dusty but nothing a wet sponge would not fix.
